The Substance Use Disorder Counselor is responsible for the delivery of substance abuse rehabilitation and clinical counseling services to the clients of Shepherd House.
In this women’s residential treatment program, the job responsibilities are as follows but not limited to:
-Provide individual counseling/case management sessions totaling 1 hour per week with a minimum case load of 8 clients on a weekly basis, throughout their stay at Shepherd House.
-Maintain effective documentation and record keeping systems, including but not limited to: bio-psychosocial assessment, treatment planning, re-assessment; progress notes; case management; consent forms; data collection and aftercare planning;
-Maintain current working knowledge of referral sources such as housing, medical, outpatient counseling, dental, legal, AIDS client services, self help groups, etc.
-Develop, implement, and facilitate and/or co-facilitate a minimum of 4 client groups per week and complete required documentation.
-Communicate effectively with the treatment team and any other individuals or agencies involved in the client’s treatment.
-Provide milieu coverage as needed, including: monitoring and assessing the integrity of the program’s therapeutic milieu; empowering clients to act in accordance with the guidelines of the program; assisting clients in self-administration of medications; conducting controlled substance counts; answering phones and the front door.

-Monday-Friday: 3pm – 11pm (40 hours/week)
-Sunday-Thursday: 3pm – 11pm (40 hours/week)
-Sunday-Thursday: 10am – 6pm (40 Hours/week)
-Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 8am-4pm; Part-time position (32 hours)
-Bachelor’s degree or a certificate from a recognized counseling program or course of instruction.
-A minimum of one year of work experience in the field of addiction, HIV and/or mental health
-Experience facilitating groups and counseling prefered.
-Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
-Strong organizational, writing and communication skills.
-Ability to work independently and cooperatively as a member of a treatment team.
-Ability to relate to clients in an instructive, supportive, and compassionate manner.

Shepherd House is a 4-8 month residential treatment program for 32 women with substance use disorders in Dorchester providing a bridge between treatment and re-integration into community living.
