This training series will cover all ten required Core Competency skill sets for CHWs in Massachusetts and will include 80 hours of instruction time. Each session meets 9:30-4 with a break at midday for lunch (participants will be able to bring a lunch or buy nearby). In order to qualify for eventual state certification participants must attend all sessions.
The registration fee for this training series is $800. You may either select to pay on Eventbrite for this training (which will add a $46.65 fee) or choose a free ticket and arrange to pay Justice Resource Institute separately. Some scholarships are available; please contact Katie Johnson at [email protected] or 617.735.6382 to learn more. All payments must be received prior to the first session.
Sessions will include skill building on topics such as advocacy, outreach, client engagement, Motivational Interviewing, health care system navigation, and more. Contact us if you have questions about the session topics!
Regarding State Certification of CHWs:
The MA Department of Public Health is preparing a process for state certification of Community Health Workers, but has not yet finalized the details. Additionally, CHW training centers will have to apply for formal approval in order to prepare participants for certification. Justice Resource Institute is preparing to apply for formal approval, but this process has also not yet been finalized at the state level.
